BJP invites Pul to merge, ball is in Pul’s court: Gao

ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Much speculated ‘political marriage’ between and People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after successfully toppling Nabam Tuki led Congress Govt. in Arunachal, is seemingly going through rough and nervous phase even as the saffron brigade reportedly gave a deadline to Chief Minister Kalikho Pul’s PPA team to merge by the end of June.
BJP State Unit President Tapir Gao in an interview with The Arunachal Times, confirmed that Party President Amit Shah has sent a message to Chief Minister Kalikho Pul regarding the merger with BJP which he had conveyed recently. However, BJP state unit president denied that a deadline was served.
“We didn’t exactly give a deadline to Chief Minister but I had conveyed the message sent by party President Amit Shah to Pul to merge with the BJP”, said Gao.
“Now the ball is in Pul’s court. It’s up to him to decide whether to merge with BJP or not” said BJP state President. He further revealed that Pul had sought more time to take a final decision on the fate of his four months old PPA government.
When contacted, the Chief Minister’s Office said, “At this moment, there is a lot of speculation that is building up on the issue, but there is nothing concrete as of now”.
Chief Minister Kalikho Pul recently attended North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) meet in Guwahati, where in strengthening of regional parties were emphasized using NEDA as platform for development and growth.
Reacting to the report, PPA Chairman Kameng Ringu said, “Of course, there is some rumour doing the round but PPA has chosen to remain silent as our legislators have told us that there is no such plan”.
“We believe our legislators would continue to maintain the PPA’s position, because before joining PPA, there must have been some discussion among themselves” PPA Chairman added.
“I don’t worry about these rumours, and don’t think ultimatum is dangerous to us, as I believe PPA and BJP will continue to work together”.
PPA Chairman further said, “I don’t see any reason to merge with BJP, as there was no such agreement with the party. Moreover, Chief Minister is doing exceptionally well and I have faith that BJP will not disturb us but continue to support to run the government”.
The BJP has been flaunting their contributions ever since rebel Congress MLAs along with the support from Independent legislators dramatically dislodged Nabam Tuki government during President’s Rule.
Since then there has been a growing speculation that Pul’s government would merge with BJP sooner or later.
Now pressure is reportedly mounting on Chief Minister Kalikho Pul to decide the fate of his government, as few legislators are reportedly reluctant to merge with the BJP fearing a diminished role for themselves. If there is a failure to reconcile, it seems that there may be another round of political uncertainty in the state.
Gao has already said that there may be an organizational clash between BJP and PPA in the process of revamping and strengthening the respective organizational structures at grass root level, if Pul opts to run his government under PPA.
Land donors furious as NEEPCO fails to deliver jobs
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: At a time when Kalikho Pul led state government is strongly pitching for hydro power project in the state, the Pare Project Land Affected Welfare Committee (PPLAWC) has alleged that NEEPCO is depriving project affected people in the recruitment process. In a release, the committee claimed that in 2012 NEEPCO had promised to recruit 50 youths from project affected families and accordingly an agreement was signed to this effect by NEEPCO and PPLAWC.
“As per agreement, 50 youths were sent to Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) Roing and Tezpur to get training in various fields. The youth were selected from project affect families and verified by Deputy Commission, Yupia. Later DC Yupia forwarded names to Chairman-cum- managing Director, NEEPCO Ltd. The two-year training was sponsored by NEEPCO and as per the agreement after finishing of training they were supposed to be employed by NEEPCO,” informed PPLAWC. However, much to the disappointment of project affected people, NEEPCO backtracked from its promise and has been making excuses.
“Instead of employing project affected people who have been properly trained at ITIs; recently NEEPCO carried out special recruitment drive for SC/ ST/OBC and selected candidates from other states.
This is an insult to us and we will not accept it. NEEPCO had signed an agreement to employ 50 youths and they should honour it. We have already lost our land and now NEEPCO is adding insult to our injury,” added PPLAWC.
The committee has given time till June 27 to the corporation authorities to cancel appointment made under special recruitment drive and appointment all the 50 project affected ITI trainees.
“If they do not listen to us, we are ready for any eventuality. This is fight for our rights and we assure NEEPCO authorities that this time we will not back off until they met our demand,” they added. The Pare Project Land Affected Welfare Committee has made a fervent appeal to the Chief Minister Kalikho Pul to intervene in the said matter.
This is not for the first that time NEEPCO has come under scanner of project affected people. Local people of Yazali, where NEEPCO has 400 MW hydro project functioning had also made similar allegation that locals are deprived in recruitment process. “80 percent work force of NEEPCO comprises from other states. Even for group C & D categories which are normally reserved for local project affected people, the NEEPCO has been recruiting people from other states. State government should look into these matters. These are serious emotional issue and have potential to develop into a law and order issue,” said a project affected people.
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

Deputy Director (SBTC) Dr. Nabam Budh and Deputy Director (IEC) APSACS Tashor Pali attended the programmes as the resource persons.
Dr. Nabam Budh explained the connection between HIV/AIDS and drugs while Tashor Pali explained in detail how a person becomes drug dependent.
He also explained how a person as a parent, as an elder and as a teacher can help youth to stay away from drug and its addiction.
Cosplay, rock songs and dance items by G7 Loyals were performed on the streets to draw crowd and create awareness on drug menace.
Hundreds of students took out a rally in Namsai to warn against effects of drugs abuse as the State observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Sunday.
Later, addressing the gathering at Town Club, Superintendent of Tax and Excise (Narcotic Cell) Oly Koyu called upon the students to be agents of change and to disseminate the knowledge of ill effects of drugs abuse to every section of the society.
Expressing his helplessness for lack of sufficient staff in working in the field, Koyu suggested ATKSSU to collaborate with AAPSU and various NGOs working in this field to come forward and fight against the drugs problems.
ATKSSU general secretary, Chow Khamoon Manpong appealed to the concern department to keep strict vigil at every entry and exit points of neighbouring states to check drugs peddling. He also appealed to make all de-addiction centres in Namsai functional.
SEWA president Dr. CM Thamoung, Secretary General C.T Manlong, President, Women Welfare Society, Namsai Shristi Miao also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was organized by the District Administration in association with SEWA.
Namsai is one of the worst-hit districts when it comes to drugs abuse.
Another drugs affected district Changlang also observed the day with an urge to the youth to shun drugs for a better future.
Officer In-Charge of Changlang Police Station, Inspector B Tangjang while briefing the gathering about the ill effects of drugs informed that addiction leads to crimes, like theft, dacoity, cheating, murder, rape etc.
Highlighting the dangers associated with drugs abuse, he urged the students and youth to refrain from drug abuse which may ruin their life.
He informed that Changlang Police have registered 25 drugs related cases with 44 arrests in the last four years.
Seven Kilos of Opium worth Rs. 7, 84, 000 were seized besides two Kg and 350 gm of Ganja worth Rs. 10, 000, 240 gm Heroine worth Rs 50, 000, 10 gm of Brown sugar worth Rs 20, 000, and cash amount of Rs. 1, 72, 020 to be used for buying drugs, he said.
The Inspector also sensitized the public on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985 and informed that under Section 8 of the Act, no person shall cultivate coca plant or gather any coca plants, cultivate poppy or cannabis plant. A person accused under section 15 to 32 of the Act may be sentenced up to 10 years to life imprisonment.
The programme was attended by all the shopkeepers of Changlang town, youth, etc.
Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles also observed the Day explaining the causes of drugs addiction, alcoholism and their harmful effects on human body and various measures to prevent addiction and ways of rehabilitation.
This effort was to motivate the locals to stay away from substance abuse for their good health. This lecture was attended by 35 civilians.
At the end of the event, all the participants took a resolution to quit use of all types of tobacco products and motivate others to give up such bad habits.
Arunachal PaliVidyapith Society, Chongkham observed the day by creating awareness on harmful effects of drugs abuse to an individual, family and the society as a whole and distributing drugs education materials among the participants.
The programme was attended by around 350 people from all sections of the society, including NGO functionaries, students, teachers and staffs of Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA).
Arunachal PaliVidyapith Society, Chongkham, is a premier organization in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, which has been working for prevention of drugs abuse through demand reduction since 2003.
Besides promotional and awareness activities to sensitize people of dangers associated with illicit drugs, the organization has been providing de-Addiction and rehabilitation services through an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts(IRCA) sponsored by Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
The Centre was established in 2008 and it has so far provided de-addiction and rehabilitation services to more than 1000 addicts across the state with an impressive recovery rate.
Capital Police busts local beads burglars’ gang
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: In a major breakthrough, Capital Police has busted a gang that stole local beads worth Rs 20994700/(Rs two crore, nine lakhs, ninety four thousand seven hundreds) by arresting four persons.
Acting on a tip off, a team of police led by SDPO Techi Henyir, OC PS Itanagar N. Sora along with SI N. Nishant under the supervision of SP Kime Aya arrested four persons identified as Md Miraj Ali, Md Saidul Islam, Bengia Yanga and Anjan Majumdar.
An FIR was lodged on 18th June 2016 at Itanagar PS by Bengia Yallu, w/o Bengia Soping of Dath village about burglary that occurred at her house on June 5th and 6th where all local costly beads worth rupees 2, 09, 94,700 and other ornaments along with two mobile handsets were stolen.
On receipt of complaint, a case was registered at Itanagar PS case No-174/2016 u/s-457/380 IPC and intensive investigation was begun led by SI N. Nishant. After analyzing the Call Detail Record(CDR), accused Md Miraj Ali and Md Saidul Islam were arrested from Polo Colony, Naharlagun on June 24 last. The accused have confessed their involvement in the crime and basing upon their disclosure, stolen beads were recovered from Doimukh area and two more accused namely Bengia Yanga and Anjan Majumdar were arrested.
SDPO Itanagar Techi Henyir informed that the preliminary investigation reveals that Bengia Yanga was the mastermind of the whole episode who engaged other accused for stealing the local beads and thereby tried to sell it off.
“We are expecting some more accused to be arrested if the investigation goes in right direction” SDPO added. She further appealed to the local citizens of Itanagar to be vigilant and identify any suspicious person for safety and security of general public.
Beefing about tuitions

One can hardly move around the Capital Complex without noticing the ubiquitous coaching institutes and beef hotels which are in every market lane of name. The signboards are glaring, and are all out in the classifieds.
The most visible amongst the institutes is perhaps Nimbus, which is possibly also the oldest such institute in Itanagar, and has become a landmark of sorts. On the other hand, the most noticeable beef hotel is the weirdly named Beef Valley which conjures up images of a valley full of beef. People here seem to seriously relish their beef and believe in private tutorials.
Lately, the mushrooming of coaching institutes has blurred the lines between them and formal schools. Till recently, 19 coaching centres were running unrecognized and unauthorized classes for XI and XII standard, while 12 private schools recognized up to VIII or X standard were giving classes to XII standard students. At least four of private schools were affiliated to GHSS Kangkarnalla as exam centre, which is a clear indication of cozy affairs between authorities of both the schools.
Accordingly, DDSE Papum Pare had issued an order on March 10, 2015 for ‘One time exit permissions’ to the schools and coaching institutes, and declared them closed in another order on April 29, 2016. The order stated that, “it is pertinent to mention here that the listed institutions are running academic classes without obtaining permission from the Dept of Education, GoAP, neither affiliated to CBSE New Delhi for operating classes of Class IX/X/XI/XII despite issuance of several circulars, notice and personal discussions with the Managers, Secretaries, owners and principals of the concerned institutions by the office”. The closure order also added that the non-uniformity in fee structures without approval of competent authority is a matter of grave concern for streamlining private educational institutes in the district.
As things happen in the state, admissions are still open for many of those coaching institutes and are serving the gullible, the needy and the moneyed.
Few months back, the pricey Khan Restaurant was giving 25 percent discount as its five year anniversary offer announcing it in the local dailies. As per grapevine, Khan’s, situated behind the Naharlagun Police Station, is a favourite haunt of lawyers, with their clients in tow.
Two to three cows are slaughtered everyday by a butcher, which amounts to around 45 cows going under the knife everyday at the hands of roughly 15 to 20 beef vendors scattered across Itanagar and Naharlagun. Interestingly all slaughter houses provide halal beef, which does not matter to the local consumers who make up the major chunk of the customers.
Supposedly every cow slaughtered and meat readied for sale is checked and verified by a veterinary doctor from the Itanagar Municipal Council. A butcher informed that sometimes a group of cows are certified by the doctor at a go before it is slaughtered, as he has to visit many other slaughter houses too. It is said that a cut liver is inspected, observed and then certified whether the beef is fit for consumption or not.
There is a story of an ingenious bureaucrat beef lover, who befriended the APST Itanagar to Shillong bus driver and procured his best beef cuts from Shillong regularly, all fresh and tender in a Milton Icebox. Apparently the bureaucrat now keeps away from beef to be safe from the cholesterol and blood pressure associated with the meat.
Civilian terminal at ALG Psg remains a far cry

PASIGHAT, Jun 26: The much touted civilian terminal at the Advanced Landing Ground, Pasighat has not yet been started with the ALG nearing completion with 90 percent works done.
The resentment for not constructing the civilian terminal at the ALG is growing day by day with various organizations led by Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) East Siang Unit and students’ organization demanding for it. The Civilian Terminal Demand Committee ALG Pasighat (CTDC-ALG PSG) in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner last week had expressed the sentiments of the local public. It was shown that the civilian terminal would be given first preference; however it is unfortunate to observe that it was a ploy to convert it only for Air force/Military base by demanding more land at the fag end for construction of civilian lounge, stated the memorandum.
Claiming their demand as legitimate, the committee vice-chairman, Tobom Dai stated that “our anxiety and restlessness regarding the construction of Civil Terminal is genuine as the construction of the ALG is nearing of completion but there is no sign of it. All these times we had been made to understand that there is a civilian terminal but the ground reality is entirely different with new set of conditions being put up for acquiring fresh land. The people want a civilian airport than a military one, added Dai.
Hundreds of samiritan turn out for Kampu Hollen
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Hundreds of citizen turned out in support of Kampu Hollen Orphanage Seppa, under the theme "Rhythm for charity" organized by Bhuddast Event Management, a group supported by the Green Arunachal and I love Arunachal which was held at Monastery premises near Shidharta hall on Sunday.
Attending the charity event Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner, Deepak Kumar Singh appealed to NGOs, well wishers and state government to help such genuine orphanage for its progress in future. Singh further said, "There should be at least one NGO or Organisation who can assist Kampu Hollen Orphanage to accommodate orphan children". DC further advised orphanage to make proposal to seek corpus fund from the state government.
DC Papumpare Pooja Jain in her short speech also appreciated the organizing team for organizing such charity programme for a good cause.
Kampu Hollen Orphanage, chairperson Miss Renu Bengde expressed gratitude for every one turning out for cause of orphan children. Sharing her difficulties in looking after 25 children, Renu, appealed to likeminded people to support her cause. Meanwhile, Rs. 59740/ was collected during the charity event. Numerous artistes and band groups performed voluntarily for the cause of Kampu Hollen Orphanage.
Pul visits NDRF personnel
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Saturday visited the personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) currently stationed at Chimpu to boost their morale as well as test their disaster response works and preparedness.
He dashed into their inventory room, where all the life-saving equipments and devices to be used during the time of earthquakes, floods and other natural calamities, were stored.
The CM checked all the equipments, living rooms, toilet, office and kitchen etc. Interacting with the personnel, Pul encouraged them to keep sense of belongingness wherever they serve.
He informed that a separate chopper would be pressed into service for NDRF and also for SDRF and state police to assist them in carrying out their duty.
The CM asked the NDRF to conduct mock drills at regular intervals to educate the public about dos and don'ts during calamities also through newspapers and pamphlets.
The Chief Minister also assured to look into matters of land availability for stationing of NDRF unit at Doimukh in the space allotted to SSB. He also said that a permanent site would also be decided at Hollongi.
APTOA conducts XIth Tourism Convention
PASIGHAT, Jun 26: Arunachal Tour Operators Association(APTOA) has successfully organised its XIth Tourism Convention with the theme "Promotion & Development of Community Based Tourism" here at Engo Takar Hall near Donyi Polo Central Gangging on Saturday.
Speaking at the function, East Siang DC, Isha Khosla stressed on community based tourism in the state and expressed the need for promotion of locally available resources through tourism for community development.
The DC added that, Pasighat located centrally in the state needs more attention in promoting tourism. Khosla further exhorted all the stake holders to include education as a part of tourism by taking the students outside the state for exposure visit as well as link up other students for touring Arunachal Pradesh. She further called for promotion of local cuisines, handicrafts and culture through tourism which directly or indirectly will involve the community.
The DC also stressed on marketing of tourism by using multi media and advertisements.
East Siang ZPC, Kaling Dai requested the members to create awareness for preservation of wildlife and not to hunt wildlife. He appealed the tourism officials to explore the unexplored places of Koyu-Korang area.
APTOA president, John Panye informed that the basic idea of organising the event was to promote tourism in Siang belt seeing its potential. He said tourism is a service industry which needs to go ahead while liasioning with all stakeholders including home stay promoters, hoteliers, transporters etc.
Senior tour operator and chief adviser, APTOA, Tsering Wange told that the organization has been main pillar behind promotion of Arunachal tourism in national and international arena. Wange added the organization also provides services to guide, vendor, transporters, craftsmen and others. He informed that numbers of tourists coming to the state is increasing every year, and has generated a revenue of Rs.3,80,58000 from foreign tourists in between 2004 to 2011.
APTOA general secretary Duyu Tamo, Assistant Director Tourism, Bengia M Sonam, Raj Basu from Help Tourism, SDFA secretary Nalong Mize and RGU professor Dr. Daniel Mize also spoke as resource persons.

India asked to ratify Convention against Torture
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: National Convention in Solidarity with the Victims of Torture which met in New Delhi on June 24 and 25 has reiterated the demand that India should ratify the Convention Against Torture (CAT) without further delay. This has been pending since 1997.
It further said that Parliament should immediately enact the Prevention of Torture Bill, incorporating within it the recommendations of the Select Committee of Indian Parliament which has been pending since 2010.
It added that India must immediately pass comprehensive statutory scheme for reparation and rehabilitation of torture victims and facilitate the visit of the Special Rapporteur on Torture whose request has been pending for many years.
As India is signatory to the Convention against Disability that also addresses the issue of disabilities caused by torture, a logical and necessary corollary is that India immediately ratifies CAT.
There is now strong evidence of widespread impunity for illegal and appalling actions as a primary means of investigation when in custody and control of state actors and of torture being used as a means of coercing and subduing dissent amongst voiceless and vulnerable populations. These include large sections in the North Eastern region, Jammu and Kashmir, migrant labour, construction workers, unorganised workers, Adivasis and indigenous peoples, Dalits and India’s religious minorities who bear the additional burden of being often wrongfully associated with acts of terror. Within this women and children are especial vulnerable targets. Indeed, it is seldom recognised that children are victims of torture, often in the name of ‘disciplinary action’ in educational, care and reform institutions.
In its comprehensive outcome statement the National Convention appealed to Parliament, state assemblies and the executives to take multiple, specific and practical steps to ensure both the abolition of torture and put in place,at the earliest, effective reparation schemes. It called upon the many monitoring agencies across the country including the courts, special commissions such as the National and state human rights commissions and police complaints authorities to take strong and initiatives required by their mandates to ensure accountability from the perpetrator individuals and institutions. It called upon the police and armed forces in particular to acknowledge the practice and take all steps to eliminate it and punish perpetrators.
June 26 is observed in solidarity with victims of torture, the pervasive existence of torture within India is a crime deserving of the fullest condemnation and punishment. Torture is a pervasive practice that has to be recognised as such and abolished immediately and completely. It goes against India’s international obligations and our Constitution and amounts to a denial of the right to a life with dignity. There must always be assured punishment for perpetrators. For those who survive the humiliating ordeal of torture there must be assured restitution, compensation and rehabilitation, the convention added.
Among others, retired Supreme Judge Justice A.K Gangulay, Guwahati High court Retired Judge Justice D.N Chowduray, West Bengal High court Retired Judge Justice Sengupta, lawyers, doctors, human rights activists from across the country including Arunachal Citizens Rights (ACR), academics and representatives of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) that included the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Backward Classes took part in the deliberations as they asked India to ratify CAT.

SEPPA, Jun 26: The Type-I Football Club (TIFC) has lifted the 2nd Summer Cup Football Tournament defeating Tassar Education Charitable Football Club 2-0 in the final match played here on Saturday.
Tero Dodum scored both goals.
Yowa Naga of Takhya Kao FC was adjudged the 'player of the tournament'. Rajiv Rimo of TIFC won the best goalkeeper award while Riku Pordung of TECFC became the highest scorer.
The tournament was organized by Langku Kamku Club with the theme "Say No to Drugs", wherein 13 teams participated.
Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary (Power), Tapuk Taku pitched strongly against drug abuse and alcoholism and exhorted the youth to stay away from such anti-social and life threatening habits.
Cautioning that such activities will only bring misery to life, he urged all the parents and individual to shoulder social responsibility for eradicating of such nuisance from the society.
He said that sportspersons have ample opportunity in government jobs since the state government has kept 10 per cent reservation for meritorious sportspersons in government jobs.
Regarding erratic power supply, he informed the ongoing TAH construction and heavy downpours were the main reasons for intermittent power breakdown. He said that necessary directives were already given to the department concerned to deploy sufficient manpower along the stretch from Bana to Khuppi for immediate restoration in the time of any shortfall.
Appealing one and all not to protect and encourage individuals engaged in anti-social activities, EKSWCO Chairman Safar Pao exhorted the people to don the role of police and appealed them to catch and bring the delinquents.

Ato Piilo Club lifts Pasighat Dree Football trophy
PASIGHAT, Jun 26: Ato Piilo Club (ATC) lifted the championship trophy of the Pasighat Dree Football Tournament by defeating Achie Takar Club (ATC) by 4-2 goals in the final match played here at J.N.College ground, Pasighat on Saturday.
The game was heart throbbing with frequent attacks from both the sides with cheers from the supporters of both the camps. The game continued in suspension until Talyang Bukar of Achie Taker Club netted the first goal from the far right corner in the 25th minute.
In the second half, Ato Piilo Club played harder which facilitated Tailyang Tatu to score a goal in the 35th minute. As neither of the team could add any more goals thereafter, full time of the match ended with one goal each.
In the tie-breaker, Ato Piilo Club scored 4 against 2 goals by Achie Takar Club to lift the coveted Pasighat Dree Football Championship trophy.
The best goalkeeper title was given to Milo Tago of Achie Takar Club and the best player to Radhe Bhai of APC.
Principal JNC, Pasighat, Tayik Talom who attended the final match as the chief guest presented the trophy and the cash prizes to the winning and runners up teams, while General Jamoh, President DFA East Siang District presented mementos and cash prizes to the best player and best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Earlier in the women's Volleyball match, team A (Eastern Pasighat) defeated team B (Western Pasighat) by 3-1 sets.

CM against earth cutting
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has instructed the Itanagar Capital Complex DC and SP to issue stringent orders and to take appropriate action against the persons involved in illegal earth cutting.
The CM made the directions on Saturday after taking note that illegal earth cutting in nooks and corners were causing landslides, damaging roads as well as posing threat to the dwellers in low lying areas.
Reminding that the state capital is situated in a very high seismic zone, Pul has appealed to the denizens of Capital Complex to refrain from constructing their houses in nallahs and landslide prone areas.
Further, Pul has instructed the PWD to construct one more bailey bridge over the Yamaso nallah at Division IV to minimize traffic congestion at Ganga Market and along NH-415 within a period of two weeks.
Pul observed that the existing Bailey bridge at Division IV is a single lane and causes traffic congestion and with another bailey bridge constructed, the traffic congestion in Ganga Market can be reduced to a great extent by diverting the vehicles plying towards Niti-Vihar and Division IV areas from Ganga market, Akashdeep and RK Mission Hospital.
The CM also instructed the SE PWD (Capital Circle) to immediately make corrective measures and smoothen the road by giving proper gradient at the end of the CC road and construct the gaps at the junction of two roads in the Capital Complex within two weeks. (PRO, CMO)
Legal awareness camp at Chayangtajo
CHAYANGTAJO, June 26: In order to educate the local people about the free legal services available to them, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised a day-long legal awareness camp at Chayangtajo on Sunday.
Speaking as a resource person, Seppa CJM cum Civil Judge Tageng Padoh briefed on free legal aid services available for the poor and marginalized citizens and on court procedures including arrest and bail. He advised the public to attend to court summons whenever issued so as to avoid lengthy trial of cases which may linger on due to non-cooperation from persons involved in the case.
ADC, Ashok Tajo advised the GBs, PRIs, government servants, students and the general public to be law-abiding citizens and to make use of the free legal services available through DLSA.
Underscoring the fact that judiciary is the custodian of law of the land, he asked the public not to be afraid of courts, rather to be cooperative and supportive in settlement of all pending court cases at the district level.
Seppa, Deputy S P, Bomto Kamdak explained on Arms Act, Explosives Act, etc. and advised the gun license holders to be very cautious in handling fire-arms. He stressed on the fact that no one other than the arms license holder should handle the gun, so that unwanted fire-arm accidents can be avoided.
ICDS deputy director, Inu Baishya spoke on child welfare, right of women, domestic violence etc, while advocates Bimon Sonam and Nama Dodum explained the provisions under Assam Frontier Regulation Act, Arunachal Pradesh victim compensation scheme, consumer protection law and free legal aid scheme etc.
Later an interactive session was conducted for the GBs and the public with the DLSA members to clear the doubts.
GWS mourns Taipodia's death
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Galo Welfare Society (GWS) expressed shock over demise of Tahum Taipodia on June 24 in Guwahati.
Recalling his immense contribution to the society in various fields, GWS said that Taipodia was a man of principle, soft-spoken and kind hearted person loved by all.
In his death, the society has lost a father figure and the void created by his death can not be filled easily, the GWS said, and prayed his eternal peace.
Mission village beautification
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Bam Chili Youth Club under the aegis of GRK Bam planted hedges of Duranta golden in around 1.5 km stretch of the village road on Sunday.
More 500 youth took part in the plantation drive under 'Mission village beautification' which is aiming to plant hedges in every road of the village alongwith avenue plantation. They also cleaned the village surroundings.
With every household having individual toilet, the village has already become open defecation free.
Inspired by the cleanest village of Asia-- Molynnong in Meghalaya, the villagers have pledged to make their village best among all Galo villages.
In-service training for teachers
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: An in-service training of teachers of Palin Educational block was conducted at BRC hall, Palin from June 20 to 25.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Kra Daadi DDSE cum DPO Biri Son suggested the trainee teachers to attend the training sincerely to improve their teaching capacity in tune with changing education patterns.
Kra Daadi DPC Biri Tach also spoke and encouraged the trainee.
The resource persons of the training were VN Yadav, PGT (English), BR Mishra, TGT (Science) of Government Higher Secondary School, Palin and AK Rai, TGT (Hindi) of Government Middle School, Palin Town.
Coordinator Pedagogy Techi Tai and BEO Palin Khyoda Tagum also spoke on the occasion.
BJP training camp for Subansiri region ends
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: The 2-day Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay district level training camp for Subansiri region comprising Upper Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi and Lower Subansiri concluded at Abotani Hall, Ziro on Sunday.
State BJP President Tapir Gao, who inaugurated the programme, called upon all the party cadres and workers to take the best advantage of the training as this was a must for every BJP party leader and cadre.

State General Secretary and chief of the training Dominic Tadar said that the purpose of the nationwide training programme was to prepare and train 15 lakhs party cadres to manage the affairs of the party which has become the largest political party in the world with more than 11 crore members. He also informed the gathering that State BJP unit has kept a target to train 5000 party cadres for the purpose and so far 3000 has been given training,with the completion of this training.

AdiSU seeks Governor's intervention on bridge construction
ITANAGAR, Jun 26: Adi Students Union (AdiSU) has sought the intervention of the Governor for early completion of the bridge over Sissiri.
Lamenting the inordinate delay in completion of the bridge, which missed the scheduled completion time, AdiSU in a memorandum has appealed to the Governor to use the power of his office to expedite the bridge construction work.
The bridge, if completed, will connect Roing, the district headquarters of Lower Dibang Valley and rest of eastern part of the state with Pasighat via Aoholi-Dambuk route.
More importantly, the bridge will provide great respite to people of Dambuk ADC headquarters as the area remains cut off from rest of the world for more than six months after onset of the monsoon, AdiSU added.
Parl Secy visits schools, assures sufficient teachers, infrastructure
SEPPA Jun 26: Parliamentary Secretary (Power) Tapuk Taku on Saturday made an unannounced visit to Govt. Middle School, Type II and Govt. Higher Secondary School, Pampoli, where he interacted with School Management Committees, teachers and public to know the problems of the schools.
On seeing the pathetic conditions of the schools and the difficulties faced by the students due to shortage of teachers, he assured to pursue the matter with the competent authority for better infrastructural facilities and posting of adequate teachers in both the schools.
He said that Chief Minister Kalikho Pul is focusing on complete overhaul of the education and health sectors.
